Monte Worldview
ordinal collection

A monumental vision of the Earth created in 1587 by Urbano Monte in Renaissance Milan. This extraordinary planisphere opens a window into a Renaissance cosmos where science and myth converge.

In 1587 Urbano Monte, a Milanese nobleman and cartographer, created one of the most ambitious maps of the Renaissance: a circular planisphere designed to show the entire Earth from the North Pole. Originally divided into more than sixty pages, this masterpiece was meant to be assembled into a giant disc, forming a vision of the world unlike any other of its time. Monte’s map combines geography, imagination, myth, and science, reflecting both the spirit of discovery and the mysteries that still surrounded the globe in the late sixteenth century.Today each of these pages has been inscribed forever onto the Bitcoin blockchain, ensuring that this monumental worldview is preserved for eternity. Separated, they are fragments of history; together they reunite into a cosmic circle, the Monte Worldview, a map that is both a document of its age and a timeless symbol of humanity’s quest to understand the Earth.
